Why Psychiatrists Should Oppose Euthansia for Their Patients

Colleagues, above is a link to an 11 minute interview I did when I was lecturing at Oxford University's Anscombe Bioethics Center last year.

At that symposium, I presented my concerns regarding physician assisted suicide and "medical" euthanasia in general and voluntary euthanasia of psychiatric patients in particular, as is being practiced in the Netherlands and Belgium.

In this video interview, filmed when I was there, I go over some of my basic concerns and ethical reflections as to why these practices are actually antithetical to the fundamental ethos of what it means to be a psychiatrist and how it is an anathema to the practice of psychiatry.
